Biography Pedro da Motta Veiga
Senior Fellow at the Brazilian Center of International Relations (CEBRI). Pedro da Motta Veiga has served, for the last fifteen years, as Director of CINDES (Centro de Estudos de Integração e Desenvolvimento), a think tank focusing on Brazil’s foreign economic policies and sustainable development, based in Rio de Janeiro. He is also, since 1997, a managing partner at EcoStrat, an economic consulting firm in Rio.
From 2015 to 2020 he was a non-resident fellow at the Rice University Latin America Initiative. Mr. Motta Veiga acted as the Regional Coordinator for the South American program of the Multilateral Division of the Swiss Development Cooperation (2007-2014) and performed as a member of the Steering Committee of the Latin American Trade Network – LATN and as of the Working Group on EU-Mercosur Negotiations, from Sciences Po, Paris.
Previously, Mr Motta Veiga was Chief of Staff of the presidency of BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank) and Export Finance Director at FINAME, a subsidiary of BNDES (1995-1996). He also served as General Director at Fundação Centro de Estudos de Comércio Exterior, a think tank dedicated to research on international trade (1988-1994).
Mr Motta Veiga has acted as a consultant for international organizations such as the World Bank, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Latin American Integration Association.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in social and political science from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1975) and a MSc in Production Engineering at COPPE-UFRJ (1984).
