CEBRI held the first edition of Paraty Dialogues, with the support of the Open Society Foundations (OSF). The event brought together 32 experts and leaders from 14 countries in the historic city of Paraty for three days of dialogue on the ongoing transformations of the international system and ways to strengthen cooperation amid an increasingly complex and unstable global landscape.
Diplomats, public policymakers, academics, civil society representatives, and business leaders from Brazil and abroad took part in discussions organized around three main themes: geopolitical transition and international cooperation; climate action and sustainable development; and global governance and institutional renewal.
Conceived by Julia Dias Leite, CEO of CEBRI, and Antonio Patriota, Brazil’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and a member of CEBRI’s International Advisory Council, Paraty Dialogues was established as a permanent forum for substantive and pluralistic exchange, with a perspective rooted in Latin America and the Global South.
The initiative also comes at a time of Brazil’s growing prominence on the international stage, following the country’s hosting of the G20 Summit in 2024, the BRICS Summit in 2025, and COP30 in Belém. The aim is to build on this momentum by bringing together leaders from different regions of the world each year to discuss the future of the international order and the main global challenges.
“We want Paraty to become an established forum for global dialogue, capable of bringing together diverse perspectives and regions of the world to discuss major international challenges. This initiative also draws on Ambassador Antonio Patriota’s curation and extensive network of contacts, which have been instrumental in bringing relevant voices into this debate. Our ambition is to build a leading permanent forum from Latin America, inspired by initiatives such as Aspen, Davos, and the Bellagio Center.”
— Julia Dias Leite, CEO of CEBRI
Following the event, a report will be published summarizing the main debates, contributions, and reflections from this first edition of Paraty Dialogues.

Building on the discussions held in Paraty, CEBRI hosted an event at its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, the 19th, entitled Paraty Dialogues: A Call to Renew International Cooperation for Peace and Sustainable Development.
The event brought together some of the international guests who participated in the first edition of Paraty Dialogues to share key themes discussed over the preceding days and further explore the transformations of the international system and the challenges facing geopolitics, global governance, and multilateralism.
Organized in partnership with the Open Society Foundations (OSF), the event opened with remarks by Julia Dias Leite, CEO of CEBRI, was moderated by journalist Marcelo Lins, and featured Pedro Abramovay, OSF Vice President of Programs.
Participants included experts and representatives from institutions such as the International Crisis Group, the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), King’s College London, the United Nations Foundation, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), and the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), as well as former representatives of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.
