On Thursday (15/08), CEBRI and the Embassy of Denmark in Brazil organized an event on “The Role of Artificial Intelligence and Data in the Health Sector”, gathering Brazilian and Danish experts and authorities to discuss the issue, aligned with the dialogues promoted by the Global Digital Health Initiative (GIDH).

The use of data is a key element in the Danish health system, one of the most comprehensive health records in the world. In the debate, Søren Brunak, Professor at the University of Copenhagen, explained how the nation uses artificial intelligence based on machine learning algorithms to diagnose, analyze and map networks of disease trajectories in the population, as a contribution to new policies for health prevention and treatment.

Victória Menin, a researcher at Instituto Veredas, reiterates the significant opportunities for Brazil with the Digital Health system. In this vein, the General Coordinator for the Dissemination and Integration of Health Data and Information at the Ministry of Health, Thiago Bahia, noted that “one of the lessons learned in the dialogue with Denmark has been the importance of practicing the construction of information and data standards, so that we can make sense of Brazil's digital health databases”.

The event was the inaugural in a series of discussions foreseen in the context of the collaboration between CEBRI and the Embassy of Denmark in Brazil, to democratize the dialogue between the two countries by connecting experts from civil society, the public sector and the private sector.
