The current geopolitical landscape is marked by profound changes in the international system. Amid the weakening of the liberal order and multilateralism, countries are challenged to rethink their security strategies and positioning within this complex political scenario. However, the traditional view of International Security, strongly anchored in geopolitics, represents only a part of the regional challenges faced by Latin America, which has its own unique characteristics and structural issues rooted in its historical development that transcend regional borders. In this context, the rise in extreme climate events and their devastating impacts highlight the connection between climate and international security, especially in light of the growing “securitization” of the climate agenda.
The inclusion of climate change in security and defense strategies reflects increasing concern and its impact on global stability.
In this scenario, the preparatory roundtable for the XXII Forte International Security Conference, known as "Miniforte," aims to deepen these discussions. In addition to the need to advance sustainable development through the use of clean energy, the meeting will address how cooperation between Latin America and Europe—particularly between Brazil and Germany—in the defense sector can generate mutual benefits, drive technological development, and strengthen transatlantic cooperation.
