On July 2 and 3, the G20 community and members of Think20 (T20) Brasil will gather in Rio de Janeiro for engagement group’s Midterm Conference, a precursor event to the Official G20/T20 Summits.
Over two days, leaders from national and international think tanks, academia, representatives from the private and public sectors, and civil society will debate the progress made over the past months and propose solutions for global challenges, including issues such as hunger, climate change, and digital transformation.
The initiative is committed to strengthening the participation of think tanks and academic institutions in the G20 process in Brasil, disseminating the knowledge produced by the six T20 Brasil Task Forces, promoting expanded dialogue between academic institutions, research entities, and leaders from the G20 Sherpa and Finance tracks, and contributing to the formulation of recommendations made to the official G20 agenda.
For the first time, the Midterm Conference will present the Communiqué in advance to the leaders of the G20 Brasil Sherpas and Finance Tracks. This document synthesizes the work carried out by the Task Forces over the previous months into objective and concrete recommendations to G20 countries, aiming to influence the leaders' negotiations and the drafting of the joint declaration to be presented during the G20 Official Summit in November 2024.
The T20 is one of the 13 official Engagement Groups of the G20, bringing together international think tanks and research centers from member countries besides invited countries and organizations. The primary goal of the T20 is to produce, debate, consolidate, and present policy recommendations to the leaders of the largest international economic cooperation forum.
Since the end of 2023, the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG), and the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea) have comprised the T20 Brasil Organizing Committee, taking on the responsibility of contributing to knowledge production and organizing policy recommendations during Brasil's G20 presidency.
The T20 Brasil Midterm Conference is organized by CEBRI, FUNAG, IPEA, Rio de Janeiro City Hall, and BNDES, and sponsored by CAF, Equinor, Veirano Advogados, AWS, Microsoft, KAS Brasil and Suzano.
