Armas nucleares: a dimensão humanitária

  • 09 december 2013

Since the 2010 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) Review Conference, states have been paying increasing attention to the humanitarian dimension of nuclear disarmament. As a result, they have expressed their concern for the catastrophic consequences of the use of nuclear weapons in several multilateral fora, including the recent 2013 Session of Commission I of the UN General Assembly. This growing awareness generated an incentive to intensify efforts towards the elaboration and adoption of a treaty prohibiting the development, production, storage and use of nuclear weapons as well as the demand for their destruction. It is on this subject that Ambassador Sergio Duarte bases the CEBRI article "Nuclear Weapons: The Humanitarian Dimension".
