Starting October 22, CEBRI Cultural will host the exhibitions As Bárbaras, by Cláudia Jaguaribe, and Reimagining Nature, by Raul Mourão.
With its new cultural hub, CEBRI expands its activities by recognizing culture as a dimension of Brazilian identity and a tool for projecting Brazil internationally.
CEBRI Cultural will serve as a platform for exchange and for the production and dissemination of knowledge, bringing artists, researchers, and diverse audiences closer to debates on Brazil’s role in the world.

As Bárbaras, by Cláudia Jaguaribe, is an artistic project that brings photography and history together to question and reimagine the role of women in shaping Brazil. Through contemporary images developed from iconographic research, the work revisits real women who lived between the 16th and 20th centuries. Inspired by Bárbara de Alencar, a 19th-century revolutionary and an ancestor of the artist, the project brings together different female figures under the name As Bárbaras, evoking the various meanings attributed to the term, ranging from “foreigner” to “exceptional woman.” “Some appear in accounts of Brazilian history, while many others have been forgotten, erased, or pushed to the margins,” Jaguaribe explains.

In the gardens, Reimagining Nature, by Raul Mourão, integrates sculptures into the landscape, transforming the space into an open-air gallery. The works establish a dialogue between geometry and the organic forms of their surroundings. “Straight lines and geometric shapes dance with this green, organic landscape of nature,” Mourão says.
