On July 7, the seminar “Sustainable Biofuels for International Transport – Aligning International Forums and Global Policies,” organized in partnership by CEBRI, the Climate and Society Institute (iCS), Amcham-Brazil (American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil), the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), and the Brazil-China Business Council (CEBC), brought together business and institutional leaders to discuss the pathways toward decarbonizing international air and maritime transport.

The event reinforced Brazil's strategic role in the global energy transition, highlighting its position as the second-largest producer of biofuels in the world and the importance of collaboration among the private sector, government, and research institutions to promote sustainable biofuels.

Focusing on advanced fuels such as SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) and biomethanol, the discussions addressed key themes such as public policies, governance, financing, international standards, integration of production chains, and innovative mechanisms aimed at consolidating Brazil as a facilitator of strategic alliances and a global leader in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

The seminar also highlighted the challenges Brazil needs to confront to enhance its competitiveness in the international market, including trade, regulatory, and methodological barriers such as land use quantification and double counting of sustainability credits.

The Opening Panel featured Izabella Teixeira, Member of CEBRI’s International Advisory Board, and Abrão Neto, President of Amcham-Brazil and Senior Fellow at CEBRI.
