On June 25 and 26, 2025, Brazil hosted the XVII Academic Forum of BRICS (FABRICS), the annual meeting of the BRICS bloc that brought together experts and leaders from various countries to discuss strategic themes such as global health, governance of artificial intelligence, trade, climate change, and multilateral security. Held in Brasília, the event featured representatives from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Russia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
Organized by the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA), FABRICS 2025 established itself as an essential forum for building collaborative solutions among member and invited countries, with an emphasis on practical actions and innovative public policies.
Throughout the two days, panels addressed contemporary challenges, highlighting cooperation in global health by promoting the exchange of integrated research and public policies; governance of artificial intelligence, with discussions on regulations and their socio-economic impacts; climate change, focusing on energy transition and adaptation to environmental crises; reform of the multilateral architecture for peace and security, in light of new geopolitical paradigms; and institutional development, centered on strengthening international organizations.
Moderated by experts from IPEA and partner institutions, the debates emphasized the importance of collaboration between governments, academia, and the private sector to drive transformative agendas. The closing session reinforced the commitment of BRICS countries to advance towards more inclusive and effective multilateral cooperation, laying the groundwork for future joint initiatives. With the conclusion of the event, Brazil reaffirmed its central role in promoting global dialogue, connecting diverse voices in pursuit of sustainable and equitable development.
