In a moment of global pursuit of decarbonization, wind energy emerges as a key solution in the transition to a cleaner energy matrix, especially in its offshore modality, which has greater potential for electricity generation.
In Brazil, the energy matrix is considered "cleaner" when compared to the global average due to the significant use of renewable sources*, including wind energy. We have a total of 49.1% from renewable sources, almost half of our energy matrix, while the global average is 14.7%.
In this context, seeking to investigate the role that offshore wind energy could play in the Brazilian energy matrix, CEBRI, in collaboration with the Embassy of Norway in Brazil and Innovation Norway, along with consultancy from ABEEólica, developed the Policy Paper "Strategies for Offshore Wind Industry in Brazil".
Focusing on the necessary conditions for the installation of the first offshore wind farms in the country, the study aims to:
Inform about the opportunities this form of renewable energy presents
Provide support for the promotion of public policies and regulations that facilitate its implementation
Encourage innovation and sustainability in this type of energy
Ensure legal predictability With examples of successful experiences in leading countries in the offshore wind energy sector, the material also emphasizes the need to attract investors and incorporate social and environmental criteria in the selection of projects to be chosen.
