Izabella Teixeira participates in the Release of the Global Council for Responsible Transition Minerals’ Interim Report at COP29

At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) held in Baku, CEBRI participated in strategic discussions on key topics, including critical minerals, a just energy transition, climate finance mechanisms, and sustainable practices.

On November 13, Izabella Teixeira, Trustee Emeritus at CEBRI and Special Advisor to IICA for the G20 and COP29 and COP30, attended the launch event of the Global Council for Responsible Transition Minerals’ Interim Report.

Organized by the Paris Peace Forum, the launch marked a significant milestone following six months of intensive discussions and collaborations among global experts. The event presented the Council’s initial recommendations addressing the challenges and innovative solutions for the global governance of critical minerals essential to the energy transition.

Adopted during the 7th Edition of the Paris Peace Forum, the report outlines key recommendations, such as:

  • Integrating multilateral dialogues on climate, industry, and minerals;
  • Establishing a centralized data repository to enhance transparency; and
  • Developing strategies to create value in developing countries, mitigating risks, and accelerating the financing of responsible mining and refining projects.

The panel featured a discussion session moderated by Philippe Varin, President of the International Chamber of Commerce, with contributions from Kandeh Yumkella, former Director-General of UNIDO, and Solange Harpham, Head of the initiative’s Secretariat.
