CEBRI at COP26: An Assessment

This Saturday, November 13th, marked the end of COP26, which brought together representatives from nearly 200 countries who came in search of effective actions to combat the climate crisis. CEBRI Trustees Izabella Teixeira, Marcos Jank, and Ilona Szabó as well as Senior Fellows Ana Toni and Hussein Kalout attended the conference. The 2021 Glasgow climate pact provides pathways towards the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Over the past few months, the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) has convened a series of debates on the topics of climate change, the environment, and COP26. The next webinar, Financing Biodiversity, will take place on November 19th, at 10:30 am, in partnership with the Brazilian Development Association (ABDE). The webinar will discuss the role of Development Financial Institutions (IFDs) in structuring innovative financial instruments focused on preserving biodiversity, identifying alternatives that can be incorporated by the National Development System (SNF) to promote sustainable development. The event will be moderated by Nabil Moura Kadri (BNDES), with the opening by Izabella Teixeira (CEBRI) and Sergio Suchodolski (ADBE) and will include the speakers Bráulio Dias (UnB), Mercedes Bustamante (UnB), and Susan Edda Seehusen (UNDP Brazil). The webinar will be broadcast live on ABDE's YouTube channel. For more information, click here.

During COP26, on November 8th, CEBRI held a debate in partnership with the Institute for Climate and Society (iCS) and Uma Concertação para a Amazônia. The event was broadcast on YouTube and counted with the participation of Samela Sateré-Mawé, youth spokesperson for the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB), and Ana Toni, Senior Fellow of CEBRI and Executive Director of iCS, with mediation by Izabella Teixeira, CEBRI Trustee and former Minister of the Environment. Be sure to watch the debate here.

CEBRI has convened 13 events, with more than 15 hours of live content, discussing topics like COP26, the environment, and climate change, with panelists from Brazil and the world.
