Biography Joaquim Levy
Levy is a Member of the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI)'s International Advisory Board. He is the Director for Economic Strategy and Market Relation at Banco Safra since June 2020.
He has wide-ranging experience in multilateral organizations as well as in the public and private sectors. Levy presided over the Brazilian National Economic and Social Development Bank (2019) and served as Minister of Finance of Brazil (2015). He also held the position of CFO at the World Bank between 2015 and 2018, having been responsible for the financial strategy and asset management of the Bank and its branches.
Joaquim Levy was Vice-President for Finance and Administration (2006) at the Inter-American Development Bank, a guest economist at the European Central Bank (1999-2000) and held many positions at the International Monetary Fund from 1992 to 1999.
He was also Chief-Economist at the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (2001), Secretary of the National Treasure (2003), Secretary of Finance of the State of Rio de Janeiro (2007-2010) and Director at Bradesco Asset Management from 2010 to 2014.
Joaquim Levy holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago, an MSc in Economics from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, and a degree in Naval Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He produced ground-breaking research on sustainable development as a Visiting Fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford (2019). Levy regularly publishes articles at key national and international media outlets.
