The public deficit is the savings of the private sector

Without claiming to be exhaustive on a complex subject that can be approached from multiple perspectives, this working paper aims to deepen reflection on the topic in a way that is also accessible to non-specialists. The perspective chosen for this is the one that integrates the flows of income to the stocks of financial assets and liabilities that are created and destroyed in the economy. In the end, the paper proposes policies compatible with the presented framework.
