Climate-related discussions during São Paulo Climate Week (SPCW)

In a series of events and panel discussions, CEBRI actively engaged in climate debates during São Paulo Climate Week (SPCW). Explore our participation!

On August 5, the Energy Transition Program (PTE), led by CEBRI in partnership with the IDB, BNDES, Cenergia (COPPE/UFRJ), EPE, FIPE, and MRTS, hosted two events in the “Decarbonization Pathways” series, focusing on the Industrial and AFOLU sectors, at the offices of Veirano Advogados in São Paulo.

In its second phase (2024–2025), the PTE assesses the macroeconomic impacts of the transition and seeks to develop sectoral roadmaps with public policy recommendations aimed at supporting Brazil’s climate targets in a cost-efficient manner.

In the panel dedicated to the AFOLU sector (Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use), experts emphasized that achieving Brazil’s climate targets depends on strengthening family farming, providing technical assistance, and investing in technologies that increase productivity without expanding the agricultural frontier. The discussions also addressed strategies for sustainable intensification and the need for robust metrics to measure sustainable practices. Participants further highlighted the importance of more innovative economic models to foster sustainable production and ensure the inclusion of small producers in the transition.

That same day, the discussions addressed the role of the industrial sector as a driver of decarbonization in global value chains and a promoter of a just transition. Opportunities for investment in clean technologies, bioenergy, and process modernization to reduce emissions were identified.

Contributions also underscored that Brazil’s sustainable reindustrialization requires not only technological innovation but also clear regulatory frameworks, appropriate fiscal and tax incentives, and long-term strategies aligned with climate neutrality.

To broaden reflections on climate debates, CEBRI experts also participated in two other panels throughout the week.

On Monday (August 4), CEBRI Senior Fellow Rafaela Guedes joined the panel “Rare Minerals and AI: Sustainable Innovation in the Global Supply Chain”, part of the event on “Innovation and Energy.” The session also brought together other specialists to discuss future climate leadership, Digital Sustainability in Practice (Green IT), emerging technologies, and industrial decarbonization.

Seeking concrete actions and cross-sector perspectives for discussions leading up to COP30 in November, CEBRI Advisory and International Board Member Izabella Teixeira participated in the fourth panel of the event “COP ao Cubo” on Thursday (August 7). According to her:

“All decarbonization and electrification solutions on the climate agenda involve critical and strategic minerals, natural resources, and materials. These elements are at the heart of the global ambition debate.”
