The Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), Vale, and the Australian organization The Global Foundation are hosting the “Carajás Roundtable: Advancing the Climate Transition Toward COP30 and Beyond” from August 13 to 15, in Pará.

Held in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, the event brings together representatives from the public sector, private industry, and civil society to discuss global climate governance, industrial decarbonization, the role of the private sector, forest conservation, and climate finance.

The initiative reinforces Brazil’s strategic role as a global environmental governance leader and places the Amazon at the center of solutions to the climate crisis, in preparation for COP30, which will be hosted in Belém.

At the opening, José Pio Borges, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at CEBRI, highlighted the importance of the partnership between CEBRI and Vale, emphasizing that an effective climate transition requires integration of technical knowledge, public policy, and community engagement.

During the roundtable “Global Climate Governance: COP30 as a Turning Point for Climate Action”, Member of the International Advisory Board at CEBRI, Izabella Teixeira noted that hosting COP in Brazil is expected to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis, establishing new pacts and responsibilities among governments, the private sector, civil society, and academia.

Closing the first day of the event, COP30 President and Trustee at CEBRI Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago stated that the think tank has become a key actor in Brazilian diplomacy, fostering cooperation between public decision-makers and the private sector in pursuit of innovative solutions to Brazil’s challenges.

Opening the second day, Clarissa Lins, Member of the International Advisory Board at CEBRI and co-founder of Catavento, moderated discussions on “The Mining Sector and Industrial Decarbonization” with representatives from mining companies operating in Brazil. In her opening remarks, she highlighted that energy, climate, and mining form an essential trio for generating solutions to be presented at COP30.
