At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) held in Baku, CEBRI participated in strategic debates addressing critical topics such as critical minerals, a just energy transition, climate finance mechanisms, and sustainable practices.
On November 13, Izabella Teixeira, Trustee Emeritus at CEBRI and Special Advisor to the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) for the G20 and COP29 and COP30, participated in the event “Sustainable Livestock and Food Security in the Americas”, convened by IICA. The initiative brought together farmers, private sector leaders, and government authorities from across the Americas to discuss the future of livestock production, with a focus on economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
The discussions highlighted global trends in agriculture amidst the climate crisis, emphasizing the need to strengthen collective action to ensure food security and promote innovative solutions. During the event, Izabella Teixeira advocated for the integration of science and innovation to accelerate adaptation to climate change, including the use of technologies such as genetic modifications aimed at addressing water scarcity.
“The imperative is to produce more food while exerting less pressure on nature in a vulnerable region. This carries significant political implications, and we must work together—public and private sectors alike. The future is already here, and we face enormous challenges,” she emphasized.
The panel also featured contributions from Mayara Jungles, Sustainability Manager at BRF/Marfrig; Manuel Otero, Director General of IICA; José Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Belize; and Muhammad Ibrahim, Director of Technical Cooperation at IICA.
