On this Thursday (July 18), CEBRI hosted the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, as part of his agenda during his visit to Brazil. Held at the Jequitibá Headquarters, the new headquarters of CEBRI, the visit marks the celebration of 150 years of Italian immigration and the first visit of an Italian head of state to Brazil in 24 years.
"The 150th anniversary of Italian migration to Brazil represents a significant moment in the relationship between our countries and compels us to reflect on the indivisibility of human destinies, recalling this chapter that marked our identity and recent history. The bonds of friendship we have with Brazil represent a common heritage, nourished by the contribution of more than 800,000 individuals of Italian nationality in the country and the largest community of Italian descendants in the world," stated the head of state.
Under the theme "The need for inclusive dialogue in a changing international landscape: partnerships and perspectives at bilateral, regional, and global levels," the Italian president highlighted the responsibilities that both countries have assumed for 2024, the year Brazil will lead the G20 and Italy will preside over the G7, intergovernmental forums that provide an opportunity for dialogue on fundamental issues for our planet.
Alongside ambassadors Marcos Azambuja and Rubens Ricupero, Emeritus Counselors of CEBRI, the conversation aimed to promote the exchange of ideas on how countries can establish strategic partnerships and boost international cooperation. "The international context is dramatically uncertain, crises are proliferating, and competitions are occurring to reshape the geopolitical balances of the world. Global circumstances are emerging that highlight new threats to peace and security, the protection of legality, and the safeguarding of human rights. In the face of challenges of this magnitude, the solution is, and must necessarily be, joint," affirmed Mattarella.
