Leveraging carbon accounting and product GHG intensity standards in the context of COP30

Catavento, in partnership with the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), is leading an initiative focused on standards for carbon accounting and product-level emissions intensity in order to support COP30 Presidency on this topic. The objectives of the initiative are to: (i) analyze the key challenges in establishing globally-aligned carbon accounting and product intensity standards that ensure comparability across different industries and unlock market forces to accelerate the energy transition and (ii) identify recommendations to be presented to the COP30 Presidency on how to address these challenges by leveraging lessons learned from existing initiatives and proposing possible pathways forward.

To do so, Catavento held a series of interviews with key stakeholders, all conducted in June 2025, as well as the organization and moderation of a high-level roundtable on July 10th on these topics. Insights gathered during the roundtable will be consolidated into a concept note and executive presentation, to be subsequently shared with the COP30 Presidency.
