This COP29 side event, co-organized by CEBRI and the AIR Center, aims to explore how Brazil, Azerbaijan, and the United Arab Emirates can address these challenges while contributing to a sustainable energy future. The discussion will focus on the approaches of the presidencies to energy transition and options for phasing out fossil fuels, the role of the oil and gas (O&G) sector in the transition, the financing needs for this shift (including climate financing mechanisms proposed by the presidencies), and strategies to tackle challenges such as stranded assets, fiscal dependency, carbon storage, energy affordability, and the social impacts of the transition.
