On June 6, at 5:30 pm, the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL) will host the event “Why isn't Brazilian democracy dead?”. Organized by CEBRI's Democracy Thematic Program, the initiative marks the launch of the book by Marcus André Melo, Senior Researcher at CEBRI, Professor at UFPE and Columnist at Folha de São Paulo, and Carlos Pereira, Senior Fellow at CEBRI, Professor at FGV EBAPE and Columnist for Estado de São Paulo newspaper. The book presents reflections on the events that took place in the short 10-year interval between 2013 and 2023.

At the ceremony, the authors will be alongside Joaquim Falcão, Trustee at CEBRI and Member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, Lilia Schwarcz, Professor in the Department of Anthropology at USP and Co-founder of Companhia das Letras, and Jairo Nicolau, Political Scientist and Professor at the School of Social Sciences (FGV/CPDOC), to debate the issue and analyze the functionalities and dysfunctionalities of the Brazilian political model.
